Offers & decisions
They offer cash, credits, or an extended warranty
Review what you receive and what you give up.
What to do, in order
- Request the full written agreement, payment amount, warranty terms, exclusions and performance dates.
- Identify any release, confidentiality, arbitration, non-disparagement, claim withdrawal or case closure language. Ask which parties and claims are covered.
- Compare the offer with the unresolved problems and costs. An extended service contract is different from the original warranty.
- If you have counsel, send the offer to them before agreeing. Ask for reasonable review time; do not accept under pressure without understanding the terms.
What you can say
“Please send the complete written offer, including all releases and conditions, so I can review the benefit and its effect on my claims.”
What to watch for
Do not assume accepting goodwill is harmless. The legal effect depends on the actual wording and applicable law.
