Getting started
The repair order is incomplete or inaccurate
Correct the record in writing, without altering the original.
What to do, in order
- Ask for both intake and completed copies, with dates, mileage, customer concern, findings, parts and work performed.
- Send a short itemized correction request. Quote the disputed wording and state the accurate symptom or date with supporting evidence.
- Keep the original and the correction request. Ask for an amended order or written response; do not modify a dealer record and present it as original.
- If records are refused, document the refusal, ask dealership management, and seek state consumer or legal assistance.
What you can say
“The order says [text], but I reported [specific concern]. Please correct the description or attach this statement to the service record.”
What to watch for
Do not discard unfavorable records. Disagreements and unsuccessful repairs belong in the timeline too.
Your next step
Use the repair-order correction template.
